Arts and Crafts

The Age Concern Southwark day centres are involved in arts and craft activities throughout the year.

The Black Elders group recently held an art exhibition at Southwark Cathedral. The group were able to showcase a range of portraits that they had produced. The series was called "faces, moods and expressions".

The service users at Stones End Day Centre have enjoyed regular trips to the Dulwich Picture Gallery.

Having visited the picture gallery, experienced have come along to the centre to help introduce art classes.

Many of the older people had never taken part in any art or craft activities. The art classes have allowed many older people to have a go, and learn some new skills.

The service users enjoy learning new skills.

All of the centres will be taking part in Adult Learners Week in 2006. We have been fortunate to receive funding from London South Bank University. This will enable use to hold taster sessions to help introduce older people to arts and crafts.

If you would like to fund an art project at an Age Concern Southwark centre, please telephone 020 7701 9700 and speak to Chris.

If you have skills and experience that you would like to offer as a volunteer, we would also be delighted to hear from you.
