HOME CARE SERVICE
Age Concern Southwark's Home Care Service provides older people who want assistance to live independently at home in comfort and with dignity.
The service provides people aged 60 and over with a range of personal and practical care and support tailored to their needs and circumstances, including providing support to those with physical disabilities, sensory impairment, mental health problems and palliative care needs.
Age Concern Southwark has been a member of the Federation of Voluntary Sector Care Providers since 1995 and holds a contract with Southwark Council as a Domiciliary Care Provider in addition to providing privately contracted home care services. We are registered under the Care Standards Act 2000 and are annually inspected by the Commission for Social Care Inspectorate. In 2006 our service users commented on the reliability, consistency and flexibility of their care workers to CSCI. To read our report go to www.csci.org.uk.
Every year we make over 52,000 visits to provide care and support to over 100 clients. We constantly monitor and evaluate feedback from our service users. Recent comments from service users and their families include:
“Without your help I would not have been able to manage”
“You do make a difference – please never stop”
“The quality of care helped our mother stay at home.”
“Our mother has been feeling so much better since you all have been coming”
All of our services are delivered by well trained, experienced and professional care workers who have been carefully selected and interviewed. We carry out rigorous checks on references, Criminal Record Bureau checks and POVA (Protection of Vulnerable Adults) checks before we employ anyone.
Over 90% of our workers have or are studying for an NVQ2 in Social Care, and all are trained in Moving and Handling, First Aid, Adult Protection and Food Hygiene. Many staff have also undertaken specialist client training i.e: Working with people with Dementia, Sensory Impairment, Strokes, Sensory Impairment, Mental Health Problems, Palliative Care, and Communication and Counselling skills, In addition to a comprehensive induction programme all staff take part in ongoing training and development and refresher courses and receive regular supervision and support..
